FROM THE RECTOR
As we roll into August and people begin rolling back into town from summer trips and fun I am acutely aware of just how many things we have planned for this fall. The program year kicks off with Vacation Bible School with our friends at St. Christopher’s. VBS will be August 18-22 from 5:30 until 8:30 with dinner being provided, compliments of the ECW ladies from both parishes. We will gather at St. Christopher’s, 3300 Cedar Lane in Portsmouth, each night with an exciting program offered for our children and for the first time, a week-long look at the book of Revelation for our adults. I hope you will all join us for the week. VBS is just one of several opportunities for Christian Formation this fall.
Julia Burgess Ballinger will be working with the youngest Trinitarians this fall with Godly Play. Godly Play is a way of playing with the great stories of the bible asking the question “I wonder.” The children will get to play with toys representing characters and places from the bible all the while learning about who God is. Likewise, adults will be engaged in a study of the Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ according to St. Mark. This advent Ryan Michael will offer a couple of sessions on the music of the season. Our fall programming should prove to be exciting and enlightening at the same time. Please do speak with me or with Julia Ballinger should you have any questions about our fall offerings.
Christian formation is an important part of our lives as Christians. We are called to hear, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest Holy Scripture so that we might be conformed to the risen life of Jesus Christ. My hope is that Christian formation can become a priority for us as a parish and individuals over the coming year. By the coming we were fully formed as Christians, and through intentional study of the Christian faith and life, we will be better equipped to follow Christ more closely and to share the good news about what God is doing. Join me this year in dedicating yourself to Christian formation as a way of becoming a better disciple of the risen Lord.
