News For The Week of May 10-18, 2008

What’s happening in Christian Formation at Trinity?   It’s a RED day today with the coming of the Holy Spirit – god-in- action – the people were filled with new life and energy, for the church is people with a vision who are on a mission.

Acts 2:1-42.

·         The children will be creating symbols of the Holy Spirit and putting them in their treasure box.  How many symbols do you know that could symbolize the Holy Spirit?  Ask a child how many they came up with and which one meant the most to them.

·         The youth will be talking about their experience at New Beginnings in Blackstone.  Two of our youth, Lee Harbin and Logan Peacock, attended last weekend.  The youth will meet upstairs in the EYC room.

·         The adults will continue their discussion of the Basic Elements of the Christian Faith with The Rev. Howard Hanchey.  What is the next element you ask…join them at 9:30 in the Conference Room to find out.

·         At coffee hour following the 10:30 service we will have a birthday party for the church.  Come help us eat our RED cake and celebrate Pentecost.

Mother’s Day Celebration: We would like to honor all our Mothers with a breakfast on May 11, at 9:00 am in the parish hall.  We have such a busy schedule on Sunday’s at church this month; we chose a breakfast instead of lunch or dinner.  Hope to see you there.

“A May Day Get-Together” will take place Tuesday, May 13, 11:00 A.M.: The Trinity ECW and St. Elizabeth’s Guild are sponsoring a Spring Covered Dish Luncheon. Our guest speaker is Wendy Wilkinson. Wendy holds Master's Degrees in Religious Studies from John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio, and in Divinity from Virginia Theological Seminary. Her husband, Mark, is the new rector at St. Aidan's Church in Virginia Beach. Wendy’s topic is “Women of the New Testament.” Bring your favorite dish & join us. That will make our “May Day Gathering” perfect. Jean Colonna - Chairman.

The United Thank Offering Spring Ingathering will be next Sunday, May 18. Here are a few of the ways the money you donate is used:

  • Kitchen equipment for a homeless shelter.
  • A playground for a child-care center.
  • A school in the Dominican Republic.
  • A dental clinic for the poor.
  • Half-way houses.
  • A Bishop’s house in a new overseas Diocese.

Blue Boxes & Envelopes will be dispersed today. Thank you, in advance, for your gifts. Jean Colonna.

Celebration of Trinity Sunday: May 18th we will celebrate Trinity Sunday as well as all those who serve at Trinity Episcopal Church.  Following the service we will have a reception of circles in the Parish Hall.  Please bring something to share that is in the shape of a circle, melon balls, grapes, pepperoni, cucumbers, carrots, crackers, cheese, pizza, bagels, danish, muffins, or anything you can imagine to be in a circle.  Be creative and have fun with this idea.

Sunday Supper Gathering: We are all invited to the home of Rob & Catherine Blackwood, 424 Woodard’s Ford Rd, Chesapeake, on Sunday, May 18, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, for our next Sunday supper gathering. As always at these gatherings, we will share fellowship, a glass of wine, and something to eat. Bring a dish (entrée or salad or desert), and your favorite beverage to share. Mark you calendar today! Questions about what to bring? Call Rob or Catherine.
