Announcements for Sunday, September 5, 2010

The Church Office will be closed tomorrow, September 6, in observance of Labor Day.

Slight Change at 8 a.m. Eucharist - Beginning today, we will use the regular version of the Rite I Eucharistic Prayer, Eucharistic Prayer I, at 8 a.m., instead of the shorter alternate version, Eucharistic Prayer II.  Prayer I is the version that most of us know already, and it is the one that Father John knows by heart.  When he polled the breakfast crowd on August 15, all were happy to move to the regular version.  Any questions, see Father John.

The Brotherhood of St. Andrew - All men of Trinity are welcome to meetings for a time of fellowship, a dinner together, and  a time of sharing, learning and planning for strengthening Trinity Church and members' spiritual lives. We next meet on Tuesday, September 7, at 6:00 pm.

September 12 is Music Ministry Sunday: We will celebrate the ministry of our organist/choirmaster and choir. Come and meet our musicians at coffee hour and say "thank-you" for all that they do!

Slight Change at 8 a.m. Eucharist - Beginning Sunday, September 5, we will use the regular version of the Rite I Eucharistic Prayer, Eucharistic Prayer I,  at 8 a.m., instead of the shorter alternate version, Eucharistic Prayer II.  Prayer I is the version that most of us know already, and it is the one that Father John knows by heart.  When he polled the breakfast crowd on August 15, all were happy to move to the regular version.  Any questions, see Father John.

Upcoming Preaching Series Father John will begin a new preaching series next Sunday and over the following three Sundays.  It's entitled Living the Generous Life.  Based on the appointed readings for each Sunday, Father John will focus on the readings from the Gospel according to Luke.  May this be an opportunity to hear and reflect on God's generous presence and provision in our lives.  Father John welcomes your feedback.

Saturdays with God - Pilgrimage to a New World - The Diocese of Southern Virginia's Commission on Prayer and Healing sponsors a quarterly silent retreat for a few hours on a Saturday in a different part of the diocese each time.  The series is called "Saturdays with God," and all are welcome to come to these events.  Our opening retreat for the fall will be at Historic St. Luke's Church in Isle of Wight County (near Smithfield) one of the oldest churches in the U.S. There is no cost for this event which will be on Saturday, September 18, from 9:30 AM until noon with coffee and gathering time beginning at 9 AM.   For further information and to let us know you are coming, call the Rev. Gary Barker at 757-357-2826.  Directions to Historic St. Luke's can be found at the website www.historicstlukes.org.

Rally Sunday, September 19 – Don't miss this special day at Trinity! At the Holy Eucharist at 10:30 a.m., we'll join together to celebrate:

  • Welcoming Jake and Avery Scholes into the household of God through Holy Baptism.

  • The great experience this summer in Vacation Bible School and thanks to students, helpers and leaders.

  • New programs for children and adults in 2010-2011.

  • A display of learning opportunities here at Trinity Church.

Celebrating continues after the Eucharist with a Sundae Sunday Coffee Hour in the colonnade and the Church Yard.  Enjoy coffee and ice cream.  Bring toppings to share!

Mark Your Calendars! The 54th annual Blessing of the Animals is set for Sunday, October 3, at 4:00 pm. You and your pets/companions are invited! Bring a friend, and his or her pet(s) too!

Fall Fest 2010 Update (Friday, October 8, 10am-3 pm & Saturday, October 8 & 9, 9 am-noon - Is It on Your Calendar?) – Mary Andrews invites everyone to join in weekly ECW workshops held in the Parish Hall on Tuesday mornings around 10:30. Bring a bag lunch to share and join the fun! The Elegant Elephant is now accepting your donations of ... dishes, lamps, linens, wall art, games, puzzles, children’s toys, kitchen and household items, holiday decorations, and of course all of those delightful knick-knacks! We would appreciate almost anything, except electronic items, including TVs, phones, computers, printers, or microwaves. You can place them on the Parish Hall stage or call Beverly Matais for pick up.

Ministry opportunities - We have many great ways for you to serve in Christ’s name here at Trinity Church.  The time you put in furthers the ministry and witness of this church—and can be a real blessing to you, too!  Here are a few opportunities this week:

Sunday Breakfast:  It has been the tradition at Trinity Church to provide a fresh, hot breakfast to those attending the 8 a.m. Eucharist, and choir members and other parishioners in Christian formation as they arrive for their commitments.  We have a rotation of cooks so that, ideally, a person or couple does not cook more than once a month.  If you would like more information or would like to sign up, contact the church office.

Coffee Hour Host/Hostess – A sign-up sheet is set up in the Parish Hall for hosting coffee hour after the 10:30 service on Sundays.  You’ll get help with set-up and refreshments; we need your help to bring treats for adults and kids to promote fellowship in Trinity Church.  Call the church office for more details, and to take a Sunday.

Christian Formation Instructor: Christian Formation is all about helping children, young people and adults grow and deepen in faith.  We need leaders in young children ministry, leaders of pre-teen discipleship, youth and young adult workers, and adult formation ministers.  To learn more about these important ministries, please see Father John.  We are getting ready to begin our autumn programs, so time is short. Please pray about your potential ministry in this area of work.
